DIETS DON’T WORK

Ask anyone who has struggled with being overweight at some time in their life. Yet, over and over again, many of these individuals end up investing their hope, trust, money and health in a seemingly never-ending array of ‘miracle’, ‘breakthrough’, ‘revolutionary’, ‘secret’, etc. weight loss diets and/or products. The usually results of these attempts is well documented. If the individual had a weight loss with the product or diet, that weight is almost always regained, often even more, when the product or diet is discontinued. The consumer is once again left with the burden of excess weight and an overall feeling of failure in their efforts to achieve the body and life they want to have.

WEIGHT LOSS FOR LIFE!

The goal of the six-session* program is to naturally, safely and effectively attain and maintain a lifetime of weight management and fitness by making positive, realistic and permanent changes in eating and exercise behaviors and habits. Pounds are not the problem, habits and behaviors are the problem. The focus is on the root of the problem, those eating and exercise habits that have caused weight gain. What a person eats is not as important as why, when and how much he/she eats.

*Program is easily flexed to specific needs of the client and fee pro-rated accordingly.

Components of the Program

“WEIGHT LOSS FOR LIFE!” WORKBOOK

Resource book for program: Self-assessment, behavior patterns with foods, nutritional education, stress and coping skills are just a few areas addressed throughout the program.

EXERCISE REGIMEN

An appropriate exercise schedule is developed, based upon the individual’s level of physical fitness.

BODY FAT COMPOSITION

The program focuses on body fat and lean muscle mass percentages, rather than actual weight loss. Muscle burns more calories than fat, and stimulates the body’s metabolism to become more efficient at burning fat calories, thereby increasing weight loss. Body fat is measured at first and last sessions.

HYPNOSIS

A weekly hypnosis session focuses upon different aspects of weight control, based upon individual needs; for example exercise motivation or managing difficult eating patterns. Tapes of the sessions are provided for daily use to reinforce and strengthen the positive suggestions for behavior and attitude change. Clients also learn self-hypnosis, a valuable tool that can later be applied to virtually any situation in life that one chooses to focus upon.

NUTRITIONAL COUNSELING

Food preparation, shopping and reading food labels are only a few of the areas covered during the course of the program. Fad diets are reviewed and discussed. Recipe modifications are included. The client re-learns how to properly fuel the body to encourage increasing the body’s metabolism and fat burning.

This program is offered on and individual basis as well as for groups. It has been a successful component of the wellness program of an acute care hospital in northeast CT for several years. After many years of bouncing from one diet to another, people are very excited when they find that they have always had the inner ability to manage their weight.
